Invite Your Friends

Your members already know people who would enjoy your site. Invite Your Friends lets members invite friends by email from a tab in their Member Portal: they type a name and an address, and the friend gets an invitation with a link to your registration page.

Each member sees who they invited and who has joined, and you decide how many invitations each member can send.

Invite friends by email from the Member Portal

• A ready-made tab. Switching on the add-on adds an Invite your Friends tab to the Member Portal menu.
• Your invitation email. Edit the subject and message, or keep the ready-made invitation. Tags fill in the member’s name, the friend’s name, your site name and address, and the registration link.
• A limit you set. Choose how many friends each member can invite. The default is 5, and members see the number above the form.
• Invited and joined. Each member’s list shows every friend they invited, marked Member once someone has registered with that address, or Unregistered.
• Resend in one click. A Resend button sends the invitation again, and it counts as the same invitation.
• Place it anywhere. The [ihc-iyf] shortcode shows the form and the list on another page of your site, for example one only logged-in members can open.

How Invite Your Friends works

1. Switch on the add-on and set how many invitations each member can send.
2. Edit the invitation email, or keep the ready-made text.
3. Members open Invite your Friends in their Member Portal, type a friend’s name and email, and click Send Invitation.
4. The friend receives the email with a link to your registration page, and the member sees them in their list.

When member invitations help

• Growing a free community. Members bring in friends, and each new sign-up is one more person who can upgrade later.
• Personal recommendations. The email names the member who sent it, so it reads like a note from a friend.

For example, a coaching club lets each member invite five friends. The email arrives with the subject “Coaching Club: Membership Invitation”, and members see in their portal which friends have joined.

Questions about Invite Your Friends

Which plans include Invite Your Friends?

Invite Your Friends comes with the Full Package and Agency plans, together with all 46 Pro add-ons. The Pro plan doesn’t include Pro add-ons.

What does the invitation email say?

By default it greets the friend by name, says which member invited them and links to your registration page. You can rewrite the subject and the message.

How many friends can each member invite?

As many as you set in Limit Invitations Per User. The default is 5. Each friend’s address counts once, so resending is free.

Who is the email sent from?

From the sender name and address of your other Ultimate Membership Pro notifications. If those are empty, your site title and the WordPress admin email are used.

Can I rename the tab or add an introduction?

Yes. In the Member Portal settings you can change the tab’s label and icon, and add a title and a short text above the form.
