Restrict content on WordPress by membership
Lock a page, a category or a single paragraph. Choose who gets in, what everyone else sees and when each lesson opens.
Most new course creators price too low. In this lesson we look at three ways to set a price your students will happily pay.
Start with what your students get out of the course, not with the hours it took you to make it. Then compare three anchors: what similar courses charge, what a result is worth to the student, and what you need to earn.
From one paragraph to a whole section of your site
Lock items one by one from their edit screen, or cover hundreds at once with Lock Rules in the Ultimate Membership Pro dashboard.
Choose exactly who sees each piece of content
Every rule targets everyone, logged-in users, visitors who aren’t logged in, or the Memberships you pick. Show the content only to them, or block it only for them.
Turn a locked page into a reason to join
Visitors without access never hit a dead end. Pick what they get for each piece of content.
Redirect to a page
Send visitors to your sign-up or pricing page. Use one default page for the whole site, or a different one for each post.
Show other content
Replace the locked content with something you write in the WordPress editor, like a preview and an invitation to join.
A locker with a login form
Lock part of a post behind a box with your message, with or without a login form, styled from templates in your dashboard.
Release content on a schedule that keeps members coming back
On each post, choose when it opens for a member: right away, a number of days, weeks or months after they join, or on a date. Hide it again later if you want.
More ways to control access
One set of rules, many kinds of sites
Online courses
Lock the course category for students, drip a lesson a week and email them when the next one opens.
Premium articles and newsletters
Keep the intro of each post public and lock the rest for paying readers, with a login box right where the article stops.
Download libraries
Protect templates, guides and other files by URL, so only members with the right Membership can open them.
Questions about restricting content
Not sure your setup is covered? Search the documentation or try the live demo before you buy.
Can I lock only part of a post?
Yes. Wrap the section in the Inside Locker shortcode, or use its Gutenberg block, and choose who can see it. Everyone else sees your message, with or without a login form, while the rest of the post stays public.
Does it work with custom post types?
Yes. The Locker box is on the edit screen of pages, posts and custom post types, and a Lock Rule can cover every post of a type at once.
What happens when a membership expires?
Only active Memberships unlock content, so the content locks again when a membership expires. New sign-ups that haven’t paid yet stay on hold until the payment goes through.
How does drip content work?
On each locked post you choose when it opens: instantly, a number of days, weeks or months after the member’s subscription starts, or on a specific date. You can also hide it again after a period or on a date, and email members when it unlocks.
Can I protect downloadable files?
Yes. Add a Lock Rule for files by URL and only the Memberships you choose can open them. With the Download Monitor integration you can also limit downloads per file or per user for each Membership.
Can I restrict WooCommerce products?
Yes. WooCommerce products can be restricted like any other content, so only the Memberships you choose can access them.
Is content restriction in every plan?
Yes. Locking pages, posts, categories, files, URLs, menu links and parts of posts, plus drip content, come with every plan. Full Package adds lockers for widgets, Elementor and Divi, pay per post and restricting content published before someone joined.
