How payments work

Ten gateways come with every plan. PayFast, Paystack and Razorpay come with Full Package and Agency. Bank transfer is offline. Members pay you directly, and you activate the Membership once the money arrives. Free trials and a different first payment are documented for Stripe Connect. PayFast, Paystack and Razorpay don’t support trial periods. Planning a trial on another gateway? Check the documentation first. Pause, resume and card changes by the member work with Stripe Connect. With Stripe and Braintree, a coupon that applies only to the first payment of a recurring Membership can make that payment free, but can’t take part of it off. Your site takes payments in one currency at a time. Custom Currencies lets you add a currency with your own name and symbol. Gateway not listed? The WooCommerce route works with any gateway your store accepts, with renewal reminders instead of automatic charges.

Which payment gateways come with the WordPress membership plugin?

Every plan includes ten: PayPal Standard, PayPal Express Checkout, Stripe Checkout, Stripe Connect, Braintree, Mollie, Authorize.Net, 2Checkout, PagSeguro and bank transfer. Full Package and Agency add PayFast, Paystack and Razorpay.

Does the membership plugin work with Stripe and PayPal?

Yes. Stripe Connect, Stripe Checkout, PayPal Standard and PayPal Express Checkout are all in every plan, and they can charge members automatically every period.

Can I take recurring membership payments in WordPress?

Yes. Set a Membership to bill every set number of days, weeks, months or years, and the built-in online gateways charge members automatically. Bank transfer payments are confirmed by you instead.

Which gateways support free trials?

Stripe Connect supports a free trial or a different first payment. PayFast, Paystack and Razorpay don’t support trial periods, so check with the support team before planning a trial on another gateway.

Do PayFast, Paystack and Razorpay take recurring payments?

Yes, with their Pro add-ons, which come with Full Package. The one-time add-ons take single payments only and are also free on WordPress.org.

Can I use a payment gateway that isn’t listed?

Yes, through WooCommerce. Link a WooCommerce product to a Membership and customers pay at your WooCommerce checkout with any gateway your store accepts. Those Memberships renew with reminder emails instead of automatic charges.

Can members pay by card through PayPal without a PayPal account?

That depends on your PayPal account, not the plugin. With a Business or Premier account, a verified email, bank account and card, and PayPal Account Optional turned on in your PayPal settings, buyers can pay by card on the PayPal page.

Do I need to set an IPN URL in my PayPal account?

No. Ultimate Membership Pro tells PayPal which IPN address to use, so don’t set a manual IPN URL in your PayPal profile. Your server must let PayPal reach your site, and your primary PayPal currency must match the currency set in Ultimate Membership Pro.
