Manage Reset Password

When a member forgets their password, the standard reset link in Ultimate Membership Pro has the site generate a random password and email it. Manage Reset Password gives you a custom reset password page instead: the link in the reset email opens a page of your site, where members type the new password they want.

Nobody receives a password in plain text, and members pick one they can remember. Every membership reset password request stays on your own site, from start to finish.

A custom reset password page for your members

• On your own page. The reset form sits on a page of your site, added with a single shortcode.
• Members choose the password. They type the new password twice and click Submit.
• A one-time link. The link in the reset email carries a one-time code and is valid for one hour.
• Checks before saving. The form makes sure both fields are filled in and match before anything changes.
• Confirmation and redirect. Members get the change-password email, then land on your After Password Reset page, or your home page when none is set.

How Manage Reset Password works

1. Create a page, for example “Reset password”, and add the reset form shortcode.
2. Switch on the add-on and choose that page as the reset form page.
3. Members ask for a reset on your lost-password page, as usual, and the email links to your page.
4. They choose a new password and are sent to the page you set for after a reset.

When members reset their password on your site

• Members who forget their password. They pick a new one they can remember, instead of copying a generated one from an email.
• No passwords in inboxes. The reset email holds a link, not a password.
• A site that keeps its look. The reset form lives on a page of your site, so the whole reset happens on your own pages.

For example, a coaching club adds the reset form to a page called Reset password, chooses it in the add-on and sets Member Login as the page after a reset. Members click the email link, choose a password and go straight to Member Login.

How long does the reset link work?

One hour. The link carries a one-time code, and the newest link a member asked for is the one to use.

Where do members go after changing their password?

To the page set as After Password Reset in your Ultimate Membership Pro pages, or to your home page when none is set.

Do members get an email when the password changes?

Yes. After the new password is saved, members receive the change-password email from your Ultimate Membership Pro notifications.
