MailChimp PRO
One newsletter list treats a free member and an annual subscriber the same. MailChimp PRO gives you a Mailchimp audience per Membership: members join the audience of the Membership they get, and leave it when that Membership expires or is deleted.
The built-in Opt-In of Ultimate Membership Pro adds new sign-ups to one Mailchimp audience. MailChimp PRO goes further and follows the Membership each person holds, so your Pro Monthly campaign goes to the audience of Pro Monthly members.
A Mailchimp audience per Membership, kept up to date
- One audience per Membership. Pick a Mailchimp audience for each Membership, or let it use your Default Audience.
- Added when a Membership starts. Each time a Membership is activated, the member joins its audience with their email address, first name and last name.
- Removed when it ends. When a Membership expires or is deleted, the member leaves that audience.
- Cleaned up with the account. When an account is deleted, the member is removed from the audiences of their Memberships and from the Default Audience.
- New sign-ups too. Choose MailChimp PRO as the Opt-In service on the registration form and new registrations join the Default Audience.
- Audiences picked from a list. The add-on loads the audiences of your Mailchimp account, so you choose them by name.
How MailChimp PRO works
- Switch on the add-on and paste your Mailchimp API key.
- Load your audiences from Mailchimp with one click.
- Choose a Default Audience and an audience for each Membership.
- From then on, members join and leave audiences as their Memberships start and end.
Step-by-step setup is in the MailChimp Pro guide.
When an audience per Membership pays off
- Different newsletters per Membership. Free members get your general newsletter, paying members get the updates that belong to their Membership.
- Audiences that stay current. Members whose Membership has ended drop out of that audience, so its campaigns go to current members.
- Members with several Memberships. Give each Membership its own audience and the member is added to each one they hold.
For example, a coaching club sends sign-ups to a Coaching Club Newsletter audience, Pro Monthly members to Pro Members and Annual Pass holders to Annual Pass Members. Each campaign then goes to exactly one group.
Works well with
- Email marketing integrations, the built-in Mailchimp, AWeber, GetResponse and ActiveCampaign sign-up options.
- Delete My Account, so members who delete their own account also leave your audiences.
- ConvertKit Integration, the same per-Membership idea for Kit (formerly ConvertKit) forms and tags.
Questions about MailChimp PRO
Which plans include MailChimp PRO?
MailChimp PRO comes with the Full Package and Agency plans, together with all 46 Pro add-ons. The Pro plan doesn’t include Pro add-ons.
How is it different from the built-in Mailchimp option?
The built-in Opt-In adds new sign-ups to one Mailchimp audience. MailChimp PRO adds an audience per Membership, adds members each time a Membership is activated and removes them when it expires or is deleted.
What does the add-on send to Mailchimp?
The member’s email address, first name and last name.
What do I need from Mailchimp?
A Mailchimp account with at least one audience, and an API key from your account settings. The add-on then loads your audiences for you.
Can a member be in more than one audience?
Yes. When each Membership has its own audience, a member is added to the audience of every Membership they get.
