Delete My Account
When a member wants to leave for good, an email to support and a manual cleanup slow everyone down. With Delete My Account, you let users delete their account themselves, using a Delete my Account button in the Member Portal that they confirm with their password.
Members remove their own data without writing to you, and you have one less request to handle. It also helps you answer privacy requests.
Let users delete their account from the Member Portal
- A button where members expect it. Put the Delete my Account button in a Member Portal tab of its own with one shortcode, next to your own warning text.
- Confirmed with their password. A window asks for the account password, and only the right password deletes the account.
- Logged out and redirected. After the deletion the member sees a confirmation, is logged out and lands on your login page, or on your home page if no login page is set.
- Their uploads go too. Files and images uploaded through registration fields, and their custom banner, are deleted with the account.
- An email you control. The Account has been Deleted email notification goes out, and you edit its text like your other notifications.
How Delete My Account works
- Switch on the add-on in Ultimate Membership Pro.
- Add a tab to the Member Portal and put the shortcode in it, with a short warning.
- Members open the tab, click Delete my Account and enter their password.
- The account is deleted and the member is logged out.
Step-by-step setup is in the Delete My Account guide.
When self-service account deletion helps
- Privacy requests. A member who wants their data removed can do it on their own, at any hour.
- Members who are done. Leaving takes no back-and-forth with support.
- Busy support teams. Fewer deletion requests land in your inbox.
For example, a coaching club adds a Delete account tab titled Delete my account. Its text reads: Deleting your account removes your profile and your Memberships for good. Every logged-in member, on Free Community, Pro Monthly or Annual Pass, sees the tab.
Works well with
- Member Portal, where the Delete account tab sits next to the member’s other tabs.
- MailChimp PRO, so a deleted account is also removed from the Mailchimp audiences you connected.
- MailPoet Pro, so a deleted account is unsubscribed from its MailPoet lists.
