Restriction Release
Members-only content is worth the most while it is new. Later, the same post can bring in visitors and new sign-ups. Restriction Release lets you schedule content to become public: a restricted post or page stays members-only until a date you choose, then opens to everyone.
You set the date once, in the post editor, and the post opens by itself on that day.
Schedule restricted content to become public
- Members first. Until the date, the post keeps its normal restriction and only the right members can open it.
- Public from that day. From the chosen day, everyone can read it, visitors included.
- No rule changes. The restriction that ends is the one in the Locker box or your Access Rules. Restriction Release only decides when it ends.
- Set in the post editor. Pick the date with a date picker at the bottom of the Ultimate Membership Pro Locker box.
- Any post type. It works on pages, posts and custom post types, wherever the Locker box appears.
- Easy to change. Clear the date, and the post keeps its restriction as before.
How Restriction Release works
- Restrict the post to your Memberships as usual.
- Switch on Restriction Release in Ultimate Membership Pro.
- In the post editor, pick the date the post should open, then update the post.
- Members keep exclusive access until that date. From then on, the post is public.
Step-by-step setup is in the Restriction Release guide.
Restriction Release or Restriction Hold?
The two add-ons are mirror images. Restriction Release means restricted now, open from the date. Restriction Hold means open now, restricted from the date. Use both on one post for a full timeline: public until the Hold date, members-only after it, and public again from the Release date.
Both use calendar dates that are the same for everyone. To open content a set time after each member’s Membership starts, use Drip Content.
When to release members-only content
- Early access for members. Members read new content first, and everyone else gets it on a later date.
- Older content that brings in visitors. Release valuable older posts for free, so new readers find your site and see the kind of content members get.
For example, a coaching club keeps its Week 1 lesson for Pro Monthly members and sets a Restriction Release date of March 1. Before that, everyone else goes to the Default Redirect Page. From March 1, anyone can read it, visitors included.
Works well with
- Restrict Past Content, to keep older posts away from members who join later.
- Content restriction, the Locker box and Access Rules that keep the post members-only until the release date.
Questions about Restriction Release
Which plans include Restriction Release?
Restriction Release comes with the Full Package and Agency plans, together with all 46 Pro add-ons. The Pro plan doesn’t include Pro add-ons.
Who can read the post after the release date?
Everyone, including visitors who aren’t logged in. Before that date, only the members allowed by the post’s restriction can open it.
Do I need to change anything on the day?
You change nothing. Your restriction stays as you set it, and Restriction Release lifts it from the date you picked.
Can I combine it with Restriction Hold?
Yes. Set both dates on one post: it is public until the Hold date, members-only after it, and public again from the Release date.
