Ultimate Membership Pro works alongside most WordPress plugins and themes. A few kinds of plugins get in the way of a membership site in ways we see again and again, because they change pages, scripts or the login before Ultimate Membership Pro can do its part.
This page lists those kinds of plugins, what you notice and how to fix it. To test one particular plugin, use Safe Mode.
Before you start
- Find plugin conflicts with Safe Mode: pause every other plugin for a short test, then find the one that causes the problem.
- All plugins, your theme and WordPress up to date. Many conflicts are fixed in a newer version of one of the two plugins.
Page caching (cache plugins, host cache, CDN)
A page you restricted is still open to visitors. Members see the logged-out version of a page. The login form says “Something went wrong, please try again later!”.
A cache serves a saved copy of the page without running WordPress, so Ultimate Membership Pro never checks who is visiting. Exclude the Register, Login, Checkout, Thank You and Member Portal pages and your members-only pages from page caching, don’t cache pages for logged-in users, and clear the cache after changing a restriction. The plugin’s pages are listed in Ultimate Membership Pro›Settings›Pages Setup.
Script optimization (combine, minify, defer or delay JavaScript)
The registration form doesn’t send, the upload or avatar button does nothing, payment fields don’t appear on the checkout, or popups don’t open.
Exclude Ultimate Membership Pro’s scripts (the files in wp-content/plugins/ultimate-membership-pro/assets/js/) and jQuery from combining and delaying, or turn the option off for the plugin’s pages. Then clear the cache.
Plugins that load their own jQuery
Buttons and forms on the plugin’s pages stop working after you install a plugin or switch theme.
Ultimate Membership Pro’s front-end scripts use the jQuery that comes with WordPress. Turn off the option that replaces or removes it, or test with Safe Mode to find the plugin that does.
Login, security and captcha plugins
Members can’t log in with the plugin’s login form, two captchas show on one form, or the login page redirects somewhere else.
Use one captcha per form: either Ultimate Membership Pro’s own reCAPTCHA (Add Google reCAPTCHA) or the other plugin’s, not both. If a security plugin moves or protects the login, make sure it still allows the plugin’s Login page and its login requests.
Other membership or content restriction plugins
Pages redirect in a loop, or a page is locked for members who should see it.
Two plugins that both decide who may see a page work against each other. Use one of them to restrict each page, and remove the other plugin’s rules from it.
Maintenance and coming-soon plugins
Visitors can’t reach the Register or Login page while maintenance mode is on.
These plugins usually show their own page to everyone who isn’t logged in. Turn maintenance mode off before you open registration, or allow the plugin’s pages in its settings.
Plugins Ultimate Membership Pro works with
Some plugins have a built-in integration, so they are built to work together. Among them: WooCommerce (Show the Member Portal in WooCommerce My Account), BuddyPress (Show the Member Portal in BuddyPress profiles), WPML (Translate with WPML), Elementor, Download Monitor and myCred.
Report a conflict
If you found a plugin that clashes with Ultimate Membership Pro, contact support with:
- The other plugin’s name and version.
- What happens, on which page, and the steps to reproduce it.
- What you saw in Safe Mode: with the other plugin paused, and with it kept active.
- Your WordPress and PHP versions, from Tools›Site Health › Info.
A conflict isn’t always a bug
Often both plugins work as designed and one setting needs to change, such as a cache exclusion. Support can tell you which one.
Troubleshooting
Is my plugin compatible with Ultimate Membership Pro?
Most plugins are. To be sure, test it: turn on Safe Mode, keep that plugin active, and try the features you use. See Find plugin conflicts with Safe Mode.
Do I have to turn off my cache plugin to use Ultimate Membership Pro?
No. Keep it, but exclude the plugin’s pages and members-only pages from page caching and don’t cache pages for logged-in users.
Restricted content shows up for visitors only on some pages. Is that a conflict?
Usually it’s a cached copy of those pages. Clear the cache and test in a private window. More causes are in Restricted content is visible to everyone.
