When an Ultimate Membership Pro login or registration form fails, the cause is usually simple: you’re testing while logged in, a page isn’t set, or a setting blocks the account. Find the symptom or the exact message below; each of these login and registration problems has its cause and fix.
Before you start
- A private (incognito) browser window, so you can test as a visitor.
- Every message below can be reworded. See Change plugin texts and messages.
Why doesn’t the registration or login form show?
The Ultimate Membership Pro registration and login forms are only for visitors who aren’t logged in. An administrator sees a notice instead, starting with “Administrator Info: Register Form is not showing up once you’re logged.” (or Login Form). Other logged-in users see nothing, and members who open the Register or Login page are sent to the Member Portal.
Open the page in a private window, or log out first. This is by design.
Why is the Register or Login page empty, or showing the shortcode as text?
The Register or Login page stays empty when it isn’t the page set in Settings›Pages Setup, or when it doesn’t contain the shortcode. A notice starting with “Default Pages Warning: The following pages are missing:” at the top of the plugin screens names the missing pages.
Check Register Page and Login Page in Pages Setup, and make sure those pages contain [ihc-register] and [ihc-login-form]. In a page builder, put the shortcode in a shortcode or text widget. See Set up the membership pages.
Why does the Register page send visitors to the Subscription Plan page?
The Register page sends visitors to the plan list when Choose Subscription Type, in Ultimate Membership Pro›Registration Form, is set to Subscription Plan. Visitors must pick a Membership before they can register, so the Register page sends them to the plan list first.
Keep it if you want visitors to choose a plan. Otherwise pick Predifined Subscription and a default Membership, or link to the Register page with the Membership in the address, such as ?lid=2. See Set up the registration form.
Why does nothing happen when I click Register or Log In?
The Ultimate Membership Pro registration form checks every field in the background before it’s sent, and the login form checks its fields too. If a script from another plugin or the theme breaks on the page, or a cached copy of the page is served, the check never finishes and nothing happens.
Exclude the Register, Login and Checkout pages, and logged-in users, from page caching and script optimization, then clear the cache. If it still fails, switch other plugins off one by one and try a default theme, testing after each change.
Why does the form say “Please fill out all mandatory fields”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “Please fill out all mandatory fields” when a required field is empty. On the registration form the message appears under that field; on the login form, under the empty username or password field. It also appears under the reCAPTCHA when its checkbox isn’t ticked.
Fill in the field. To change which fields are required, see Add custom fields to the registration form.
Why does the registration form say “Email address has already been taken” or “Username has already been taken”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows these messages when an account with that email or username already exists. The email message also appears for addresses on the Email Address Black List in Settings›Security.
The visitor should log in, or reset their password with How password reset works. If the address shouldn’t be blocked, remove it from the black list.
Why does the registration form say “You must have a valid email address” or “Invalid Username”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows these messages when the email is empty or not a real address, or when the username has characters WordPress doesn’t allow.
Use a full email address, and a username with letters, numbers and simple symbols only.
Why does the registration form show a password message such as “Password must include minimum 6 characters”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows a password message when the password doesn’t meet the Password Requirements on the Register Form Showcase tab: Minimum Length (6 by default) and Password Strength Options.
Choose a password that meets the rules, or relax them in Registration Form › Register Form Showcase.
Why does the registration form say “Please agree to our Terms & Conditions”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “Please agree to our Terms & Conditions” when the terms checkbox is on the form and isn’t ticked.
Tick it. If you don’t want it, switch the terms field off in Registration Form › Custom Fields.
Why does the form say “Error with Captcha”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “Error with Captcha” when Google didn’t accept the reCAPTCHA answer, or when the keys don’t match the selected version.
Check both keys in Settings › reCaptcha Setup. See Add Google reCAPTCHA.
Why does the login form say “Invalid email address or password entered”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “Invalid email address or password entered” when the username, email or password is wrong. The same message appears when another plugin or the theme rejects the login, for example a security or two-factor plugin, or a theme login form on the same page.
Reset the password with the lost password form and try again. If the details are right, test in a private window with other login and security plugins switched off and a default theme. See How password reset works.
Why does the login form say “Your account has not been approved. Please retry later”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “Your account has not been approved. Please retry later” when the account is waiting for approval. New members get this status when WordPress User Role in Registration Form › Register Form Showcase is set to Pending.
Approve the member in Ultimate Membership Pro›Members. See Manage your members.
Why does the login form say “The email address has not been confirmed yet”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “The email address has not been confirmed yet” when email verification is on and the member hasn’t clicked the link in the verification email.
Ask the member to check their spam folder. You can also approve the email yourself with Approve Email in the member’s row menu in Ultimate Membership Pro›Members. See Verify members’ email addresses.
Why does the login form say “Something went wrong, please try again later!”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “Something went wrong, please try again later!” when the login page’s security token expired, because the page was open for a long time or a cache served an old copy of it. The same text appears when a member who suspended their own account tries to log in.
Reload the page and log in again. Exclude the login page from page caching.
Why does the login form say “Login Form is locked for 15 minutes.”?
The Security Login module of Ultimate Membership Pro blocked the visitor’s IP address after too many failed attempts.
Wait for the lock to end, or adjust the limits. See Block brute-force login attempts.
Why does social login say “You are not registered with this social network. Please register first!”?
Ultimate Membership Pro shows “You are not registered with this social network. Please register first!” when a social login button was used, but that social account isn’t linked to a member.
Log in with the password once and link the account in the Member Portal. See Let members log in with social accounts.
Why do members stay on the login page after logging in?
Members stay on the login page when After Login in Settings › Pages Setup is Do Not Redirect, so the form is replaced by “Welcome to our Website!”. Members who log in from a Locker also stay on that page, on purpose.
Pick an After Login page, or a page per Membership. See Redirect members after login.
Still stuck?
- Test with a new test account in a private window, so old cookies and your admin session don’t affect the result.
- Check the member’s record in Members: status, Memberships and email verification all affect login.
